Leigh spoils Willow Glen Homecoming

October 24, 2016

Leigh scored four times in the first half, spoiling Willow Glen's Homecoming, defeating the Rams, 49-14.

On their first possession, the Longhorns capped off a 77-yard drive with a four-yard rushing touchdown by star running back Michael Brohn, followed by a two-yard plunge by Leland Ledger to stretch the lead to 14 points. At the start of the second quarter, Willow Glen got on the board when Tyler Warren found sophomore Jacob Soria for a 65-yard touchdown.

“Our defense has been playing incredible as of late, only allowing 14 points in league, excluding the Oak Grove game.” said Leigh coach Kyle Padia. “It seems to be our recurring thing now; we slip up on one coverage a game.”

As the first half wound down, Leigh quarterback Jared King responded by trotting in from 20 yards and Brohn hit the hole hard for his second touchdown of the night, giving his team a confident 28-7 lead at half.

The Longhorns came out in the second half and continued where they left off, pounding the rock for another two touchdowns and a 68-yard passing touchdown from King to junior Mason Peterson.

With 9:23 left in the game and a comfortable 42-7 lead, Padia put second-string quarterback Tyler Pflibsen into the game. After two unsuccessful runs from the one-yard line, Pflibsen raced around the left edge for his first high school touchdown.

“Very exciting moment. Yeah, it took a while, but we finally punched it in.” said Pflibsen on his first touchdown. “Big shoutout to the o-line for letting me bounce out.”

He quickly gave the ball to the referee the ball and raced to the sideline to a mob of hugs and high five as he pointed to his mom in the crowd.

Finally, with 9.1 seconds left in the game, Warren ran in from the three-yard line to end the game with a final score of 49-14, falling to 2-6 and 1-4 in league.

“We have a bright future because we are young, but we can’t fault the guys we have now. We will get better as time goes on.” said Willow Glen head coach Oscar Caballero. “It is just tough to stand and watch teams that are more experienced then we are. As for next week, we just plan to everything we can to put up a fight and take it day by day.”

The Rams hope to stop this losing streak as they face the Oak Grove Eagles next Thursday and the Longhorns work to defeat Lincoln next Friday.
