HUGHSON, CA - Hughson pulled away in the second quarter, racing to a 44-14 win over Millennium in girls basketball on Tuesday night.
Guard Megan Vaca led the way for the Huskies scoring nine points overall. Guard Amaya Salas would end the game with an overall five points to lead Millennium (5-4).
Hughson (4-3) got things started after tying up the first quarter 9-9, and would extend their lead to ten points at the end of the second quarter, up 24-14. But the Huskies were not done yet, holding the Falcons to zero points in the third and the fourth quarter, taking the game 44-14.
The Huskies also refreshed some team history Tuesday night as they pushed their win streak to three games. The last time the Huskies had a winning streak of three or more games was in the 2014-2015 girls basketball season.
“It feels great to have a three-game winning streak going during this point of the season,”said Hughson coach Mark Perry. ”Our defense did a great job in the zone and that’s what lifted us for the victory tonight.”
“We have three players out right now and it’s very tough playing without them tonight,” said Millennium coach Joe Reyes. ”We need to get healthy as a team and get back to work as we go into the next game. Our team played well but made some costly mistakes which had us fall in those last two quarters.”
Hughson will travel on the road to Patterson for an end of the week tournament taking place from December 15th to December 17th with times and opponents to be announced. Millennium is also on the road and will face (3-2) Rio Vista this Thursday with game time set for 6:30 pm.
