Lynbrook improves to 2-0 with win over Del Mar

September 14, 2013

Lynbrook remained unbeaten on Friday night with a 42-20 victory against Del Mar, which couldn't contain the Viking running game.

The Vikings scored first six minutes into the game when senior running back Eric Day broke free from the Del Mar defense and ran the ball in from 22 yards.

Lynbrook quickly added another score minutes later on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Jared Jacoby to running back Jonathan Chang.

The duo, along with senior fullback Jason Larsh, accounted for all 40 points that the Vikings scored.

“Eric Day, Jon Chang, both at the three-back for us ran great," Lynbrook coach Jim Grassi said. "Jason Larsh at our fullback and two-back played great and Jared managed a great game. Our offensive line, you’re going to see, it doesn’t matter the size it’s all about us working harder than the other team.”

The Dons, missing numerous key players, were simply outmatched.

Though Del Mar was able to rally in the fourth quarter, it was too late. Highlights for the Dons included a nine yard TD catch by junior wide receiver Steven Sciplin during the second quarter and two touchdowns by junior wingback Anthony Carini -- a short run and a long pass reception during the fourth quarter.

Said first-year Del Mar coach Bryan Beacraft: “We just have to try to get what few guys we have healthy; we’re only suiting 18-19 (players) right now. [We need to] get them healthy for that Westmont game, hopefully get through that and get on to our league schedule and get these 13 guys that we have and start rolling from there.”

With two impressive victories to start the season, Lynbrook (2-0) is cautiously optimistic heading into next week's game at Prospect.

“Coach Suarez of Prospect, he’s a good coach. They have an offense we haven’t seen yet this year -- they run spread and read-option so we’ve got to make sure we play disciplined football. They’re a very good football team, a little low on numbers, but their guys play very tough. So we’re just going to go in and do what we do and hopefully we stay healthy and we get out of there with a win.”

Del Mar (0-2) has a bye next week and then is at home September 27 against Westmont.
