Cherokees rout Scots, 51-7

November 16, 2013

The Sequoia Cherokees silenced the Screaming Scots’ student section early in the battle for the Terremere trophy, beating Carlmont 51-7.

The Cherokees started off fast with three touchdowns in the first quarter, two of which came from senior Dylan Anderson. Senior Matt Jenkins added the third rushing touchdown and then kicked the PAT. Later, Jenkins also added a field goal.

Junior Aidan Pierce came in at quarterback for Sequoia in place of sophomore Faavae Brown who had taken over the job from injured senior Cameron Greennough.

“[Faavae] had an injured shoulder, so he put me in there at quarterback,” Pierce said. “I was a little nervous because it was one of my first varsity games, and I played the whole game. But I also had experience from last year, so I was pretty comfortable.”

Pierce was one of seven Sequoia players to score a rushing touchdown.

“It was my first rushing touchdown of the season,” Pierce said. “So I was pretty happy.”

Carlmont scored its first points of the game with only 10 minutes remaining on a 15-yard touchdown pass. But 19 seconds later, Sequoia answered with its final touchdown of the night, a 33-yard run by junior Danny Rosenmiller.

Sequoia will hear Sunday if it has made the playoffs, but if this match-up against their rival is the senior’s last game, the team can be confident that they gave a strong final performance. The visiting stands were packed and they certainly got the show that they came for. The Cherokees end the regular season at 5-5 (1-4), while the Scots finish at 3-7 (1-4).
