SRV opens league play with 3-1 win

December 20, 2013

DANVILLE, CA - League play got off to a good start for Amador Valley when it scored to take an early lead. But the host San Ramon Valley Wolves scored three unanswered goals to win 3-1 in the East Bay Athletic League opener for both teams.

Amador Valley (5-1-1, 0-1 EBAL) took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on a goal by senior Tyler Pangia. But San Ramon Valley (3-2, 1-0) answered late in the first half with a goal from Casey McSunas. The goal came off a long set piece that McSunas was able to tap in.

Junior Alex Raymond, who has been seeing his playing time rise, played the last 23 minutes of the first half and had a few key tackles to stop Amador chances right before the break. The Wolves to be content at the break as they went into halftime tied 1-1 with the Dons.

San Ramon Valley took control in the second half with solid defense and outstanding offense to lead to what turned into an easy win.

“Solid performance - best of the year so far," Raymond said. "I'm looking forward to many more of these to come."

Senior John Wayland scored early in the half for the Wolves off a long set piece that he headed in to make it 2-1. The Wolves struck for the knockout punch as junior forward Mikey Maul scored in the 80th minute to ice the game. San Ramon goalie J.T. Carlson had many key saves in the last few minutes of the game to lock up the victory.
