NorCal grads selected in MLB draft

June 17, 2017

Over 35 Northern California high school alumni were selected during the 2017 Major League Baseball draft. Maria Carrillo grad Jake Schneiner was the first one taken, by Philadelphia in the fourth round, followed closely by Homestead grad Drew Strotman, selected by Tampa Bay.

Tracy grad Cody Bolton was the first player from the region to be taken straight from the high school ranks, by Pittsburg in the sixth round.

Meanwhile, a handful of schools saw multiple grads selected, led by Serra with three. Other schools who each had two alumni drafted include Maria Carrillo, Saint Ignatius, Saint Francis, Turlock, Leland, Burlingame, and Campolindo.
