The Tri County Athletic League released the 2016 all-league baseball teams from the Rock and Stone divisions. Saint Mary’s outfielder Andre Nnebe was named Most Valuable Player for the Rock division, while De Anza pitcher/utility player Ricky Hernandez and John Swett’s Kevin Whitaker were named Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the Stone Division, respectively.
Nnebe, a Santa Clara commit, hit .483 with five home runs, five triples, and 11 doubles for the Panthers. The six-foot, six-inch outfielder also stole 26 bases, while driving in 26 runs.
Hernandez led the Dons to an undefeated run through the Stone division. He was 7-2 with a 1.21 ERA on the mound, while also batting .420 with 11 doubles and 19 RBI. Whitaker, meanwhile, batted .500 with 18 stolen bases for Swett. He also went 3-0 with a 3.13 ERA on the mound, striking out 32 batters in 31 innings of work.
Other major award winners for the league included Rock division co-Pitchers of the Year, Clayton McDonald of Albany and Hunter Hennigh of St. Joseph Notre Dame. McDonald had seven wins, a 1.74 ERA, three saves, and pitched six complete games. Hennigh went 6-2 with three saves and a 0.69 ERA for the section champion Pilots.
