Darrell Barbour is out as the Sacred Heart Cathedral boys basketball coach.
Said a tweet on the SHC athletics Twitter feed Friday: “After 9 seasons, 1 WCAL, 5 CCS, 3 NorCal and 1 state title and a 184-98 record, Darrell Barbour will not return as boys hoops coach in 16-17.”
A later tweet from @SHCAthletics said Barbour “plans to stay as part of the faculty.”
Neither Barbour nor anyone from the SHC athletic department was immediately available for comment.
In addition to the accomplishments mentioned above, Barbour’s teams won two section titles in 12 years at Woodside High where he was also named a Central Coast Section Honor Coach is 2006.
The highlight of Barbour’s SHC tenure was probably the team’s state championship in 2009.
The Fightin' Irish in 2015-2016 went 12-17 overall and 5-7 in the WCAL. Barbour's team dropped the section title game to Archbishop Riordan by four points in overtime and fell to Bishop O'Dowd by three points in the second round of the CIF-State NorCal Regionals.
Before Woodside, he was an assistant coach at Eastern Washington University, Weber State and Canada College.
Barbour played prep ball at Menlo-Atherton, then moved on to play at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont.
