Los Gatos senior quarterback Nick Bawden has committed to San Diego State, according to Scout.com.
Bawden was not immediately available, but his teammate Grady Duggan confirmed Bawden’s commitment to the Aztecs to Prep2Prep.
“Yes, he texted me after he committed,” Duggan said Sunday night by e-mail. “I think it’s something he’s worked extremely hard for throughout the off-season and he definitely deserves it. I wouldn’t want anyone else as my QB. He takes control of our offense anytime we’re playing and is a leader on and off the field.”
Scout.com has been impressed with Bawden for a while. Wrote the recruiting web site in late May: “Los Gatos quarterback Nick Bawden had a strong showing at both the SoCal and NorCal Nike Camps and has one of the biggest arms in the region. He was in San Diego over the weekend for Steve Clarkson’s QB Retreat and wowed onlookers.”
Bawden, an all-leaguer, passed for 1,636 yards on 99-of-188 passing to go along with 12 touchdowns last season. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound signal-caller figures to be an attractive centerpiece for new Los Gatos coach Mark Krail to build his team around heading into the 2013 season.
