Mitty grad Gordon makes national team, eyes gold

June 17, 2013

Aaron Gordon did just everything a person can do in prep basketball. Now it's time to go for the gold.

The Archbishop Mitty High grad, it was announced late Monday night via Twitter, has made the USA Basketball U19 team, as the final cutdown to 12 players was made.

"I'm so happy to make the U19 USA team at 17 years old," Gordon said on his Twitter account. "Gold is the only thing in mind."

Aaron knows championships. At Mitty he led the Monarchs to four consecutive league titles, four section titles, three NorCal Regional titles and two state championships.

He was the Cal-Hi Sports Mr. California state player of the year as a junior and senior and MVP of the McDonald's All-American Game as a senior.

Mitty coach Tim Kennedy was delighted with the news when reached Monday night. Kennedy has consistently noted that such experience is invaluable for Gordon who will play on scholarship at the University of Arizona next season.

It's also a big source of pride for Mitty and its young coach to see a former Monarch wearing the red, white and blue on such an international stage.

"I am looking forward to seeing him represent our country," Kennedy said by text.
