Division-winning trio headline WACC-Shoreline football honors

November 7, 2018

With Hayward, Tennyson and Alameda all sharing the West Alameda County Conference's Shoreline Division title, it was only fitting that each school was represented with top honors, when the league released its all-league teams for the 2018 season.

Alameda multi-purpose back Elijah Twegbe was named the division's Offensive Player of the Year, while Tennyson's Ja'kobe Harris and Hayward's Nelson Suisala shared Defensive Player of the Year honors. Twegbe carried the load offensively for a Hornets' team which won eight games overall, including a big win over Hayward early in division play.

Harris, meanwhile, did everything on the field for Tennyson, in his only season with the Lancers. The Irvington transfer ran for 1,202 yards and 24 touchdowns at running back, and returned a punt for a score, but was a game-changer on defense. The six-foot-two defensive back notched seven interceptions, returning one for a touchdown in the regular season finale against Arroyo.

Suisala has only continued to get better for the Farmers, after earning Prep2Prep NCS Freshman of the Year honors in 2017. The six-foot-two, 225-pound linebacker had 90 tackles, including 11.5 tackles for a loss, to go with 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two blocked kicks.
