San Mateo at Mountain View, 3:30 PM - The Spartan defense has been stingy, conceding just 10 points in two games, both wins. PREDICTION: Mountain View 24, San Mateo 20

Leland at Santa Clara, 7:00 PM - The Chargers hope to find life a little easier in the SCVAL after dropping back-to-back games against PAL-Bay opposition. PREDICTION: Leland 37, Santa Clara 20

Saratoga at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 7:00 PM - Junior Jamar Williams-Shepherd (348 yards rushing, 5 TDs) has been a major standout for the Fightin’ Irish, who are expected to improve to 3-0. PREDICTION: Sacred Heart Cathedral 44, Saratoga 19

Homestead at Carlmont, 7:00 PM - The spotlight will be on junior QB Jerome Holloway as Homestead looks to bounce back from last week’s narrow loss to Piedmont Hills. PREDICTION: Homestead 27, Carlmont 16

Westmont at Monta Vista, 7:00 PM - The Warriors are coming off a stunning 26-0 thumping of Leigh. PREDICTION: Westmont 27, Monta Vista 23

San Benito at Los Gatos, 7:00 PM - One of the premier matchups in week 3 pits a Hollister team that has yet to allow a point in convincing victories over Hilmar and Palo Alto. The Wildcats (2-0) have already proven they have much more beyond senior Joey Wood, one of the top running backs in CCS. PREDICTION: Los Gatos 13, San Benito 10

Alvarez at Menlo, 7:00 PM - The visiting Eagles have won 12 regular-season games in a row, but the Menlo air show may bring that impressive streak to a halt. PREDICTION: Menlo 37, Alvarez 21

Piedmont Hills at Bellarmine College Prep, 7:00 PM - These neighboring rivals have maintained a consistent, longstanding relationship on the football field; unfortunately for the Pirates, the results have been fairly consistent, too. PREDICTION: Bellarmine College Prep 41, Piedmont Hills 17

Terra Nova at Pioneer, 7:00 PM - All sorts of Terra Nova passing records figure to fall, as senior Anthony Gordon has already 813 yards and six touchdowns for perhaps the best 0-2 team in CCS. PREDICTION: Terra Nova 38, Pioneer 21

Independence at Clayton Valley, 7:00 PM - Credit the 76ers for having the guts to play Clayton Valley Charter, one of the perennial powers in the North Coast Section. PREDICTION: Clayton Valley 47, Independence 14

Aragon at Lincoln, 7:00 PM - These two teams met last year with Aragon coming away with the victory, but the Lions appear poised for a strong season after dismantling “A” league Santa Teresa last week. PREDICTION: Lincoln 28, Aragon 21

South San Francisco at Serra, 1:00 PM - Few teams in the Bay Area have conjured up a beginning schedule anywhere near as difficult as the Padres, with visits to national power De La Salle and Southern California power Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks. Serra should be able to get a win on the board before a challenging WCAL schedule that starts with title contender Valley Christian in two weeks. PREDICTION: Serra 47, South San Francisco 17
