Kansas recap: Heights rallies past Dodge City

Each week, Prep2Prep recaps some of the top action from games involving Kansas high school football teams.

Class 6A

Heights 26, Dodge City 21: Tre King capped a fourth-quarter rally with a three-yard touchdown run with 30 seconds remaining to lift the host Falcons.

Heights scored the final 13 points of the game after trailing 21-13 early in the fourth quarter.

Junior Caden Walters completed 19-of-35 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns to lead Dodge City (2-1), which travels to Liberal Friday night. Heights travels to Bishop Carroll in a battle of unbeaten teams.

Poteau 66, Haysville Campus 26: Junior Roger Barcheers rushed for 255 yards and four touchdowns to lead host Poteau to an easy win.

Sophomore QB Ben Klutts contributed 127 yards and two touchdowns for the Oklahoma-based Pirates, who improved to 2-2. Haysville Campus dropped to 0-3.

In other action … junior Kevin Folsom completed 7 of 11 passes for 137 yards and 3 TDs to lead Wichita Northwest to a 53-7 win over visiting Wichita North …senior Dalton Wassenberg completed 13-of-22 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score as Salina-South edged visiting Hutchinson, 27-21.

Class 5A

Lansing 37, Tonganoxie 12: Junior Dewaun Wilkes rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns as the Lions (1-2) picked up their first win of the year in the Kaw Valley opener for both teams. Tonganoxie fell to 0-3.

Senior Krystian Abbott threw for 177 yards and a touchdown pass to Kenneth Banks for the Lions, who host Bonner Springs Friday night. Tonganoxie hosts DeSoto.

In other action … sophomore Cornelius Ruff rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns to lead Schlagle to a 32-0 win at Wyandotte … junior Tanner Taylor threw for two touchdowns and ran for a pair as Emporia routed host Topeka West, 75-7 … Dylan Scheer threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score but Valley Center lost 26-21 at home against Newton.

Class 4A

McPherson 36, Augusta 20: Senior quarterback Kyle Kinnamon passed for 177 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bullpups over the host Orioles.

Kinnamon completed 10-of-19 passes and rushed for 61 yards in the victory. Senior Dustyn McEachern led Augusta with 181 yards passing and a touchdown.

Columbus 27, Galena 6: Senior Nate Bole completed 6-of-10 passes for 73 yards and rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries to lead the visiting Titans.

Junior Jace McDown added 102 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Columbus,which improved to 3-0, 1-0 in the Crawford-Neosho-Cherokee. Galena fell to 1-2.

In other action … Scott junior Wyatt Kropp rushed for 153 yards and 3 TDs in a 65-12 win over visiting Goodland … senior Grant Raleigh completed 6-of-9 passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 155 yards and two scores to lead Hesston to a 62-6 win at Sterling … junior Brett Bonar hit on 17-of-23 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns as Rose Hill hammered visiting El Dorado, 46-14.

Class 3A

Trinity Academy 53, Anthony-Harper-Chaparral 46: Senior running back Tyler Burns rushed for 366 yards and seven touchdowns as the Knights held off the visiting Roadrunners in a Central Plains opener.

Burns has now rushed for 642 yard and 12 touchdowns in three games, all victories for the Knights, who host Belle Plaine Friday night. Anthony-Harper-Chaparral hosts Medicine Lodge.

Southeast of Saline 46, Russell 17: The Trojans had no trouble with the visiting Broncos as senior Cody Schlesener threw for 221 yards and four touchdowns in a North Central AA opener.

Schlesener threw two touchdowns apiece to Kyler Sager (5 receptions, 138 yards) and Ben Murray (3-79) for the Trojans, who improved to 3-0. Sophomore Grant Murphy led Russell (0-3) with 10 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown.

In other action … sophomore Hunter Hanzlick rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns to lead Hoisington to a 21-7 win at Pratt … senior Kyler Anderson threw for 228 yards and five touchdowns, including three to senior Wyatt Totten (7 receptions, 171 yards) as Wamego routed visiting Marysville, 55-9.

Class 2-1A

Troy 42, Valley Heights 25: The Trojans bounced back from a blowout loss at Centralia-Wetmore with a win at Valley Heights in the Twin Valley opener for both teams.

Senior Tristan Speer led the way with two touchdown passes and a rushing TD and Derek Franken added 75 yards rushing and two scores as Troy improved to 2-1. Valley Heights fell to 1-2.

In other action … Jackson Heights defeated host McLouth 28-20 despite three total touchdowns from junior Zane Richter (2 rushing, 1 passing) … Washington County senior Andrew Tiemeyer rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns in a 52-12 victory over visiting Doniphan West … senior Daniel Burgess rushed for 171 yards and 4 TDs to lead Lyndon to a 47-18 win at Northern Heights.
