Pacific Grove won its first CCS title in 13 years by defeating El Camino 4-2 Saturday at Excite Ballpark, home of the San Jose Giants. After the Colts took a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly by Gabe Meriales to drive in Carlos Alcala in the top of the sixth, the Breakers rallied for three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Kai Clarkson drove in two runs and North Kirk went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Charlie Edmonds picked up the win in relief and Andrew Jeska came on in the seventh for the save.
Edmonds also drove in the tying run with an RBI double before Clarkson came through with a dramatic suicide squeeze to give the Breakers a 3-2 lead. Pacific Grove capped the scoring on an RBI single by starting pitcher Taj Davis, who worked the first four innings on the mound, allowing just one run. Jeska allowed a walk, but struck out one in a hitless seventh to close it out.
El Camino reached the final with a 5-0 win over Leland on Wednesday. Senior Michael McCauley tossed a three-hit shutout and senior Nicholas Jang, the PAL-Lake Player of the Year, went 1-for-2 with a walk, hit by pitch and three runs scored.
Pacific Grove will await its fate when the NorCal playoff brackets are announced Sunday; El Camino, the undefeated PAL-Lake champions, finishes 23-6.
