Burlingame improved to 4-0 in non-league play with a 59-6 rout of visiting Hillsdale Thursday. Senior Dylan Black tied a state record with three interception returns for touchdowns and senior Mark O’Grady threw three touchdown passes to senior Will Armstrong. Burlingame concludes non-league play Saturday afternoon at Menlo.
Half Moon Bay also moved to 4-0 with a 49-28 win at Sacred Heart Prep. The Cougars have scored more than 40 points in all four of their games and are off next week before opening PAL-De Anza play October 2 at home against Mountain View (2-1).
In other PAL-De Anza action, San Mateo fell 35-7 against Los Gatos for its first loss and Palo Alto handled Washington-San Francisco 49-12. Woodside evened its record at 2-2 with a 26-14 win at Capuchino.
In the PAL-Bay, Los Gatos improved to 3-1 with a 35-7 win at San Mateo. Quarterback Jack Siri completed 6-of-7 passes for 100 yards and 2 TDs and senior Devonte Troutt led the rushing attack with 83 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries. The Wildcats are off next week and have two weeks to prepare for East Bay power Pittsburg October 2.
The Wildcats are the only team in the PAL-Bay with a winning record following Sacred Heart Prep’s loss to Half Moon Bay, which dropped the Gators to 2-2. SHP concludes non-league play Friday night at Mountain View. The King’s Academy fell to 1-2 with a 33-21 loss to Sonora; the Knights host Palo Alto Thursday.
In other action, Menlo fell to 1-3 with a 15-9 loss to Redwood, and Menlo-Atherton dropped to 0-4 with a 23-22 loss to California, the Bears’ second one-point loss in a row. M-A continues its non-league gauntlet Friday at Bishop O’Dowd.
In games involving PAL-Ocean teams, Milpitas (3-1) built a 28-point halftime lead and cruised to a 52-24 intersectional win over Maria Carrillo of the North Coast Section. Senior Jonah Mati completed 12-of-18 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns, and seniors Kale Hawelu (4 catches, 106 yards, 2 TDs) and Jelani North (5, 117) each went over 100 yards receiving. Milpitas wraps up non-league play Friday night at Fremont.
Aragon also improved to 3-1 with a 40-14 win over NCS opponent Piedmont. Senior Isaiah Johnson hit on 19-of-25 passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns for the Dons, who complete non-league play Friday when they host Los Altos.
In other PAL-Ocean scores, Carlmont beat Santa Clara 54-32, and Sequoia edged South San Francisco 31-28.
In the PAL-El Camino, Santa Clara had its three-game winning streak snapped in a 54-32 home loss against Carlmont. Despite the loss, the Bruins are averaging nearly 40 points per game heading into their bye week. In other games, Jefferson fell to 2-2 with a 26-18 loss at Tennyson, and South San Francisco dropped to 1-3 with a 31-28 loss at Sequoia.
Finally in the PAL-Lake, Homestead opened league play with a 35-0 win over El Camino. Senior Ben Acton led the way with 102 yards rushing and three touchdowns on just 13 carries, and junior QB Kyle Chang threw for a pair of scores.
Saratoga has started the season 3-0 following a 35-14 win over Lynbrook. The Falcons led just 19-14 heading into the fourth quarter before pulling away. It was the first time this season that Saratoga has been scored upon; the Falcons have outscored their opponents 110-14. None of the other six PAL-Lake teams played this past weekend.
