The brackets for the Peninsula Athletic League boys basketball tournament are set.
The PAL-North champion Half Moon Bay team will host Sequoia at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Sequoia upset HMB 48-40 in last year’s tourney semifinals.
In another opener on Wednesday, Westmoor is at Burlingame, also at 7 p.m. The winners of those two games will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mills High School in the semifinals. The winner of that game advances to the 7:45 p.m. Saturday title game, also at Mills.
In the bottom bracket, Aragon will meet Jefferson at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Westmoor High. In the other bottom bracket game, South San Francisco is at PAL-South champion Menlo- Atherton at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The winners of the bottom bracket games will meet at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Mills. The winners of that game will meet the top bracket winner at 7:45 Saturday at Mills to determine the PAL tourney champion.
The event already has Half Moon Bay coach Rich Forslund, who Friday against Terra Nova won his career 400th game, fretting.
“I’m anxious about it,” Forslund said. “The hurdle for me is to get the team to perform better when the spotlight is the brightest. I think that comes from learning to play in the moment. We go six weeks without really being in a tight game with a big crowd and it’s difficult to just flip the switch and perform. I don’t think (excelling) at that level comes from some external force, I think it comes from within."
