Los Angeles City Section Division II Playoff Preview

November 9, 2016

LA City Section Division I

LA City Section Division II

LA City Section Division III

They haven’t shook off the allegations of illegal transfers for three years, but Hawkins is the No. 1 seed again. Since the investigation is ongoing, they will be allowed to participate in playoffs. Thus far, it look like their division to lose. They haven’t lost this year, and are stocked with Division I recruits.

While Hawkins is the new power, an old beast is rising from the depths of irrelevance. Until a few years ago, Los Angeles was an afterthought. Now, it’s one of the best schools in the section. A fearsome matchup for anyone (even Narbonne), the Romans are the only team that figures to have a shot of toppling Hawkins.

Outside of the top two, Westchester, Jefferson and Canoga Park all have great arms and can cause some trouble. Otherwise, it’s difficult to see anyone toppling L.A. or Hawkins.

Players to Watch:

Hawkins: QB Dylan Lemle, RB Greg Johnson, LB/RB De’Gabriel Floyd

Los Angeles: QB Isaiah Johnson, DB Berdale Robins

Westchester: QB Jonathan Murphy, RB Estabon Bozeman, OLB Chayel Flowers

Grant: QB Cameron Perry, WR Eric Gaona, RB Darryl Anderson

Fairfax: RB Markell White, RB Aaron Walton, MLB William Harris

Jefferson: RB Troy Smith, QB Romeo Doubs, RB Jamarr Graves

Huntington Park: OLB Julio Velasquez, MLB Alfonso Valencia, WR/CB Joseph Kensey

Canoga Park: QB Andrew Dion, WR Alan Arango-Serna, MLB Remberto Campos

Lincoln: RB Randy Orozco, WR Eric Ortega, DB Hugo Martin

Bell: QB Franks Serpas, MLB Salvador Lopez, WR David Estrada

University: QB Takai Rogers, WR/FS Kareem Miles, DE Matt Horwitz

View Park: WR Jabari Hughes, WR Malik Montez-Hendon, SS Jaden Lyons

Washington: RB Bryan Jones, QB Chontrell Watts, LB Xavier Chisolm

Granada Hills: QB Ernie Guevara, RB/SS Max Perez, CB Eke Ugorji

Chatsworth: RB/OLB Xavier Brutus, FS Jose Torres, MLB Toby Hills

Cleveland: CB A’zhaun Molett, WR Isiah Adams, RB Isaac Garcia

Sleeper Team: The Westchester Comets had the most up and down season of anyone in the section. In a wide open league, they fell only to the team that placed third. They have a big arm in quarterback Jonathan Murphy, and running back Estabon Bozeman is terrifying on the ground. Additionally, they are very defensively sound. They may not beat Hawkins, but a win against Los Angeles is entirely feasible.

Predicted title game outcome: Hawkins over Los Angeles
